July 3, 2012
We write tonight from Nashua . . . .Yes that’s right Nashua,
Iowa where it is a steamy 106 degrees at 7 pm central time. We drove 440 miles
today and after two days of crossing the mid-west I have only 4 words to say:
corn . . . . corn. . . . . CORN and soy beans. The amount of acreage, in the thousands, that one sees on
these absolutely straight roads ( no bends in 10 or 20 miles!) is simply
astounding.
We started the day in Indiana with a wonderful outdoor
breakfast. It was cool and beautiful. The first photo shows Licia at the
breakfast table.
We then spent the
day on the road in order to be here in Iowa where tomorrow morning we will
visit the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa and end up for our 4th
of July celebration in Pepin, WI.
The other photos are to help us remember THE CORN. Here’s Licia’s report.
Wow, is this a vast country! I’ve never really thought about the shear size of the USA. Driving all this way brings the concept home. A timely observation as we celebrate the 4th of July.
We are still adjusting to RV life and small spaces. Everything in it’s place is my
motto. That’s the only way to stay
sane. Bed has to be made, clothes
put away, dishes and food put away.
And Pete and I take turns moving around. We’ve learned to open cabinets carefully after driving – you
never know what has shifted as we round corners on the road. But, it’s working. I’m cooking my first complete meal as I
write this and it is done.
Till
tomorrow, Happy 4th of
July to all!
Happy 4th! We are having fun reading the updates!
